What is Geeklog?

Geeklog is CMS with comments, spam protection and trackback support as like as many more. This make it blog oriented CMS. The comment form is a bit different than in other blogs. Here if you don't have an account, your name will be displayed "Anonymous User" and you can't change it. The other fields are "Comment Title" and "Comment". You can choose your comment to be HTML formatted or Plain Text. It has many skins and comfortable skin switcher. Geek log has all traditional blog tools and also has events calendar, forum, and statistics. Geek log can be extended by many plug-ins. Geeklog requires PHP and MySQL.

Geeklog is "Open-Source software that works as a Weblog, CMS or Web Portal. It is written in PHP and supports MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server as a database backend.

Geek log is becoming more and more popular each day and we, the Geek log developers, are amazed at some of the great hacks people have made to extend their Geek log installation to fit their own needs. At the same time, the Geek log development team is continually adding new features that make Geek log even better. We have realized the need for Geek log to support two threads of development: core geek log code and plug-in code. By building in the infrastructure needed to extend Geek-log's functionality through plug-ins we can make a clean separation between the Geek log codebase and plug-in code so that we can concentrate on making Geek log's core code better while others can develop plug-ins so that Geek log fits their needs. With that said, Geek log now has a Plug-in application program interface (API).

At the highest level, the Geek log Plug-in API is generic code that is called in strategic places in the Geek log codebase that allow function of plug-ins to be called. This will allow you’re plug-in the following features:

  • Ability for your plug-in to be submission-based so that users can submit objects to your plug-in.
  • You can then visit the command and control center in Geek log to moderate the submissions for your plugin.
  • Allow your plug-in to show up in the Admin block and User block on each Geek log page.
  • Allow your plug-in to be searched via the Geek log search page.
  • Allow stats for your plug-in to show up on the site statistics page.
  • Allow your plug-in the ability to use Geek log's comment engine.
  • Allow you to use the power of Geek log's code library (lib-common.php) in your own plug-in code.
  • Allow you full flexibility on what your plug in does. Geek log does not dictate your plug-ins power.
